The city Rome is known for its food, wine, ancient buildings, fine sculptures and Vatican rivers. The Vatican City even though located in Rome, has been an independent state since 1929 with its own flag. As long as your dressed appropriately, you may enter St. Peter’s Basilica and see Michelangelo’s Pietá a stunning beautiful and sad sculpture. You can then continue up to the roof where you can take in the view of the large square and city beyond. There is also a Vatican Museum with Italian masterpieces, including Michelangelo’s painted ceiling. Take a visit to the Roman Forum where you can pick up a map for a self-guided tour of the structure and arches or join a tour group for a more detailed history of the area. Then take a climb to the top of Palatine Hill for some sweeping views of the city.
Pizza Navona in Rome is a must visit, known for its beautiful and charming squares lined with restaurants and open-air cafes. The loveliest of the all is a large public pizza Navona, once the site of sporting events at Domitian’s stadium in A.D. 89. The lovely square contains 3 fountains, such as the Bernini’s Fountain which is one of the largest and memorable, the Four Rivers each have four statues representing a river from each continent.
Rome is timeless, fascinating, magical and romantic, with a few hard edges, all it takes is a little preparation to tilt your visit towards amazing.
